Donald J. Sowa, CFP®

President, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional

Don began in the financial services industry in 1986 working for a small firm out of Providence, RI. He set out to start his own venture in 1993, Sowa Financial Group. Soon after, he brought on some trusted colleagues, including Steven Beauvais, who shared in his vision for a higher standard of client service. Don knew early on that truly serving his clients’ best interests would require him to be independent. His aim was not to sell a particular financial product, but to ask, “Who is my client, and what are his/her needs?”

Don is President and founder of Sowa Financial Group, Inc., and is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional (CFP®). He has also served as President of the RI Institute of Certified Financial Planners (now known as the FPA). After office hours, Don continues to offer his financial insight as host of MoneyTalk, Southern New England’s longest running financial talk radio program.

Don earned his bachelor’s degree from Bryant University, and has taught as adjunct professor at Roger Williams School of Business. He has been mistaken in his younger years for NFL Quarterback, Bob Griese, and in more recent years for country star, Kenny Rogers. Don lives in Cumberland, RI with his wife Kathy, where he enjoys barbecuing by the pool with his four children and six grandchildren.

Steven J. Beauvais

INVESTMENT ADVISOR

Steve started his career in finance in the late 80’s, learning the ropes while working under one of the leading financial advisors in the state. When he was approached by Don Sowa to join his young firm, Steve recognized the opportunity. Now, after more than 30 years in business, Steve has helped Don grow Sowa Financial Group into one of the region’s most recognized and respected names in personal finance.

Steve has taken an active role in the finance community, previously serving as President and Chairman of the Board of the RI Institute of Certified Financial Planners (now known as the FPA), and hosting the MoneyTalk radio program alongside Don Sowa for 30 years.

When he is not in the office, Steve can more than likely be found out on the lake, feeding his passion for boating and fishing. “Fishing, like investing, takes patience, strategy, and good instincts. Sometimes being out on the water puts everything in perspective.” – Steve Beauvais. Steve lives in Smithfield, RI, and is the proud grandfather of Kepler, Cora and Parker.

Nathan Beauvais, CFP®, CIMA®

CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional, Certified Investment Management Analyst

Nathan often compares his life to a triangle: in one corner is his career, in another is his band and lastly are the people he loves.  After graduating from Bishop Hendricken High School, he first perused a career in music teaching music lessons for 10 years while playing in several local bands and attending Rhode Island College for music performance. Later, he changed majors graduating with a bachelor’s in finance. Nathan became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional in the summer of 2018 and more recently a Certified Investment Management Analyst® in 2022. He has been a regular contributor to the MoneyTalk radio show since 2016 hosting the program Tuesday through Friday night. Every Wednesday evening, he produces a segment on financial and economic history. He also produces a monthly podcast called Financial Context which focuses on his passion for history.

In his spare time Nathan runs a band called Funky Submarine which plays music written by The Beatles – but in ways you wouldn’t expect. The group is known for its funky grooves and jazzy harmonies which features a horn section and vocals. You can learn more about the band at www.funkysubmarine.com.

When Nathan isn’t at the office or playing his bass guitar he can usually be found at his home in West Warwick where he lives with his two sons Kepler and Parker.
